This fruit has turned out to be a real pleasant surprise since harvesting. The fruit was sourced from our friend Carol Coplan’s Vineyard, now known as “Coplan Vineyards.” This beautiful rolling hillside property is located at the northernmost portion of the Carneros region in Sonoma Valley, bordering the Sonoma Valley and Los Carneros ava’s. This vineyard experiences long, moderately cool growing season tempered by cool morning and evening breezes from the Richmond and San Francisco Bay. This northern Carneros area frequently experiences early morning and late evening fog, with warm afternoons. The diverse growing climate provides ideal Merlot growing conditions for slow, even ripening, dark color, high fruit concentrations and balanced acidity for this cooler climate Merlot. This is a full-bodied, well-structured, complex Merlot, aged in French Oak barrels with juicy black fruits, teamed with notes of tobacco, toasted oak, black pepper and all spice.
We have experienced excellent pairings with steak, roast beef, meatloaf, beef wellington, hamburgers (especially cheeseburgers), lasagna, pizza and beef stew. Light flavored cheeses like mild cheddar and gruyere are fantastic, but with blue cheese or smoked gouda this Merlot is magical.
